Nissan Encourages EV Buyers Overseas With Quick Charger Installations

There's no denying that the Nissan LEAF is taking off here in the United States, but did you know that it's also flourishing across the globe? It goes without saying that the EV is a hit in Japan, as the automaker released it there first. But, it's also quickly gaining traction in Europe, where Nissan is now preparing to install quick chargers in some gas stations in order to promote an even higher adoption rate amongst drivers.

We don't know about you, but we here at Curry Nissan think that this is an incredibly good idea, and one that we'll hopefully see replicated Stateside. After all, in its 2012 model year, the LEAF is expanding to a total of 36 states. And you can bet that over time that number will grow even more.

In total, Nissan is giving away more than 400 quick chargers to various gas stations as a part of the promotion. "With a significant number of (quick chargers) available across Europe, EV owners will be able to recharge quickly no matter where they go. We believe this is essential for the mass adoption of EVs," Pierre Loing, Vice President of Nissan product planning.1

Of course, it goes without saying that the big draw to quick charging is the convenience that it offers. Drivers can recharge their battery just like they would fill up a tank of gasoline... Well actually, quick charging isn't quite there yet, but that's the ultimate goal, and Nissan says that the technology isn't that far off in the future. For now, it can safely recharge a vehicle's battery from 0-80 percent in about 30 minutes, which isn't too bad either, though.

We do realize, however, that many of you are more interested in the convenience that many of the current new Nissan models that we carry offer. That's why we invite you to contact us online or by phone at (866) 948-7473 with any questions that you may have regarding specific models, like the Nissan Versa, Titan, and Murano CrossCabriolet, or any of the used Nissan that we carry amongst our greater lineup of used cars.
