Nissan Working to Make LEAF EV More Widely Available

Currently, Nissan claims that owning an EV like the LEAF is much cheaper in the long run than owning a conventional, gasoline-powered vehicle. While everyone here at Acme Nissan is inclined to agree, we also know that models like the Nissan Rogue, Nissan Pathfinder, and Nissan Titan aren't going anywhere. The Nissan LEAF, however is going lots of places. More specifically, it's heading to more and more dealership lots each day, as the Japanese automaker continues to increase production and availability.
Nissan is eyeing the vehicle's sales, and so far, the word seems to be good. After all, the company is currently estimating that the LEAF will account for ten percent of global sales by 2020, and it could also net them a much larger market share too. For Nissan, increasing LEAF availability is win-win.
Since launching in late 2010, the LEAF has already sold roughly 15,000 units around the globe. In the U.S., the LEAF has enjoyed the highest sales, with 8,000 sold. Meanwhile, 6,000 drivers in Japan have adopted the LEAF, while another 1,000 in Europe have turned to it as well.
Going into the future, Nissan is planning to increase LEAF production to roughly 200,000 units annually, as it becomes more widely available. The company is also planning to build a LEAF factory in the UK as well, which would carry a capacity of 50,000 vehicles annually.
Loing added Nissan has very high ambitions for the Leaf, setting up a factory with maximum annual capacity of 200,000 units. It also plans on establishing a Leaf plant in the UK, which will have an annual capacity of 50,000 units.
