Mind-Reading Cars Could be a Reality Sooner Rather than Later

It sounds like something out of a science fiction movie, right? Cars that can read your mind, and maybe even predict your next move... Can you imagine driving a Nissan Altima or Nissan Rogue that can navigate the road based on your thoughts? It's something that we here at Acme Nissan have been trying to envision ever since we first heard of it. As such, we'd like to take a minute to go over why this new wave of truly smart vehicles may be closer than we think.

Nissan recently announced a collaborative effort with École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland for the research and production of "Brain Machine Interface" or BMI concepts. So far, this technology has been proven to allow disables individuals to maneuver to wheelchairs through thought transference, which alone is already an incredible feat. But, applying this technology to vehicles could soon allow a wide new range of people to drive without the burdens of their disabilities getting in the way. It truly is a remarkable initiative.

"The Nissan and EPFL collaboration is developing systems that go to the next stage using statistical analysis to predict a diver's intentions and to evaluate a driver's cognitive state relevant to the driving environment," according to Motor Authority.1

And we don't even need to outline the benefits that this new system could have for able bodied drivers as well. A system that can read your thoughts could execute safe-driving maneuvers before the driver even has time to react, preventing accidents and saving lives.

Of course, if you'd rather pilot a new Nissan the old-fashioned way, you can always schedule a test drive at 2050 US Highway 130 Monmouth Junction, NJ 08852 simply by contacting us online or by phone at (866) 948-7473.

Or, if you'd like to learn more about the new and used Nissan models that we keep in stock ahead of time, then be sure to load up our dedicated, online Nissan inventory and showroom pages. Once there, you'll have access to a wide range of info concerning specific models, like the Nissan Quest, Nissan Sentra, and Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet, so that you can make a truly informed decision regarding you next new or used car when the time comes.
