We here at Acme Nissan were impressed enough when we heard that the NV200 would be the "NYC Taxi of Tomorrow." We were even more impressed when we heard that the Nissan van would be taking to the streets as a food truck too. Nothing however could prepare us for the most daring initiative of the next-gen Nissan... We're talking not only about its integration into the FedEx UK fleet, but also its transformation into an all-electric van in doing so too.

That's right, the Japanese automaker recently gutted the NV200 of its already-efficient powertrain, replacing it with a plug-in one that will achieve around 73 miles to a charge. Nissan will gauge how well the vehicles perform, and they also plan to see if the switch from gas to electric causes any down time for the drivers. After all, refueling won't be as simple as stopping at the next pump.

The electric components in the revamped NV200 will allow for it to pack 107 horsepower and 207 lb.-ft. of torque under the hood. Which should allow for the drivers to transport themselves and any cargo that needs to be delivered with ease.

Why is Nissan planning to do this? Simply put, switching to electric will save them money, both on fuel and because of the "green vehicle" tax credits that the company will receive from the government.
