Jumping into emerging markets is now the big thing automakers like Nissan must do in order to expand their line of vehicles worldwide and turn on new car buyers to new Nissan models. While China has been a booming market, Russia has also made a big impact on the auto market, and Nissan has put some of its focus there as well.
Already, Nissan has a six percent market share in Russia, but the plan is to increase that number up to 10 percent over the next four years. That four percent increase might not sound like much, but in total, it has a big impact. To reach that goal, Nissan must sell 500,000 vehicles, tripling the 161k it sold last year, and averaging out to an increase of 85,000 cars per year. Now does that number seem so small?
To keep up that aggressive growth, Nissan is going to produce five models in its St. Petersburg plant, including the Nissan Murano, which will be the only car of the bunch that we can find in our dealership lot at Acme Nissan.
Of course, the Murano is sure to be a hit in Russia, as it is in the United States, winning "Most Dependable Midsize Crossover/SUV" from J.D. Power and Associates, while also gaining an NHTSA Five-Star Rating for Side-Impact Crash Safety.
